September 2020 Progress Report

Vessel traffic monitoring information for the Voluntary Protection Zone (VPZ) for shipping on the West Coast of Haida Gwaii is provided through the Enhanced Maritime Situational Awareness system and the Pacific Safety Initiative (US). September 2020, monitoring results show a high proportion (86%) of commercial vessels transiting outside the VPZ on the west coast of Haida Gwaii1. The project partners would like to acknowledge the efforts made by mariners to observe the trial VPZ. We will continue to take steps to inform mariners about the trial.
